Cardiff and UWIC B 2 -1 Cheltenham B
A cloudy morning at leckworth and Cardiff and UWIC B take on Cheltenham B. A slow start by Cardiff meant that Cheltenham had all the early pressure, but could not take advantage of this with some poor shooting and some excellent defending by the back four. Cardiff soon paid and were one nil down after conceding a free hit on the edge of the D, which was taken quickly, and the first time reverse stick strike was buried into the corner. This seemed to wake Cardiff up a little and were soon back on level terms with a well-worked short corner and coolly finished by Neil Mace. With a tactical change at change at half time, Cardiff stepped up a gear and applied a lot of the pressure and were close to taking the lead when axel first timed shot was well saved by the keeper, and Paul Betts reverse stick shot from the top the D hit the cross bar. Cardiff’s pressure soon paid, when after a small goal mouth scramble the ball fell to Paul Betts again and a gently lob over the Cheltenham keeper made it two one to the home side. Cheltenham then started to play the ball around and keep Cardiff on the back foot, but some fine saves from Simon Comfort in goal and some solid defending from the back four and midfield, Cardiff held out two one winners.
