Weekend Match Reports 27th October
Cardiff and UWIC A 4 - 2 Cheltenham

Saturday saw the long drive to Cheltenham for the 2nds.  After 4 consecutive wins, confidence was high.  After a few early umpire decisions in our favour we took the lead with penalty flick from Alan Henderson.  Shortly after Cardiff and UWIC scored a second goal through Matt Thorp, who put in a fine performance on debut for the 2's.  Cheltenham came back into the game just before half time with a late goal.  We knew that the next goal was crucial and came out firing in the 2nd half.  A brilliant team goal finished by Charlie Magoye followed by Benny Eaton's 6th goal of the season gave us a comfortable lead.  Being reduced to 10 men meant that we had to work hard and defended well before a late goal by Cheltenham off a short corner that the defense failed to clear.  The final score was 4-2 which put us top of the table and 3 points clear.  Bring on next week!

Cardiff & UWIC B 3 - 1 Neath
Cardiff & UWIC B continued their good run of results with a convincing 3:1 victory over Neath.
The game started well for Cardiff and there were some particularly good passages of play in which the team were able to string numerous passes together across the pitch and really work the Neath defence.
Cardiff kept the press on Neath and capitalised on sustained pressure when Stokes was able to get on the end of a well weighted pass from Betts and slot the ball past the keeper to make it 1:0 after 15 minutes.
A second goal looked assured from the restart and within minutes Cardiff had made it 2:0 thanks to some skilful work in midfield from Mo and Ifty and another good cross from Betts setting up Ian Davies who didn’t hesitate to loft the ball into the net.
A third goal came shortly before half time after some effective work down the right hand side from James Campbell and Mathew Gray set up Betts who was clinical in front of goal.
Another superb effort from the Cardiff defence of Comfort, Abdo, Howard, Stockton, Kev Campbell and Russell again laid the foundations for the victory and only dogged and determined work from Neath enabled them to score a consolation goal in the second half.
Cardiff B would like to thank the many members of the club that supported from the sidelines!!!!
Next week sees the unbeaten Cardiff travel to the league leaders Bridgend.

Cardiff & UWIC D 1 - Abergaveny 2

Abergavenny came into this match with four wins from four games and may feel fortunate to have left with their 100% record still intact. The game was won in the first half with the vistors scoring a goal at the
begiining and end of the half, both with shots from close range. Cardiff though probably did enough  to warrant at least a draw as their belief grew in the second half. The introduction of Dale Hutchison into midfield caused Abergavenny problems on the break, as did Jason Durbridge up front. It was his cross that was turned in by Andy Lloyd to reduce the deficit, after he had previously hit the post. In the final fifteen minutes the Fifths had more shots on goal than both teams had managed in the previous 55, but a equaliser could not be found. While the result was a disappointment, the performance was not, with the team being able to show to the watching first team that good hockey is played throughout the club.
